Massif is a boutique record label that champions indie and experimental music: passion projects only.
We release a few records a year because we really love them. If they make a bunch of money, great—but it’s okay if they don’t (we have it on good authority that money isn’t real). We’re more interested in building a close-knit family of artists (like Slow Dakota, Margaux, Proud Father, and Namen Namen) and collaborators like producer Sahil Ansari.
You may have seen some of Massif’s music in places like Pitchfork or Rolling Stone. Our niche is somewhere in-between indie, folk, and rock—but our ears are always open.
PJ Sauerteig founded Massif Records in 2013, as an undergrad at Columbia University. (Originally to release the music of his songwriting project, Slow Dakota). Since that time, the Massif tent has expanded to include other artists and new friends - spanning Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York. But in all things, our artists and their rights come first: all Massif artists own their own masters, and dubious contracts and arm-twisting are a hard “no” in our camp.
PJ currently runs the label out of Chicago, IL. Say hi anytime at massifrecordsusa@gmail.com.
